NODEM 2013 Conference has ended

Tintin Hodén

I started as a PhD student at Linköping University in the autumn of 2012. My undergraduate education includes a bachelor in Art History and Intellectual History, and a master’s degree in Intellectual History. During my studies I also wrote essays for the journal Feminsitiskt initiativ [Feminist initiative] and art criticism for the online magazine Tidningen Kulturen. I have also spent six months as an intern at the publishing house TankeKraft.

My primary research interests include feminist art theory, visual culture, contemporary museology and cultural theory. Through my studies in Intellectual History I have also developed an interest for philosophers such as Hannah Arendt and Michel Foucault.

In my thesis, I intend to study the emergence of the art collection of the Swedish museum of modern art; Moderna museet. Since the museum opened in 1958 it has aimed to create a collection that mediate a “representative” image of the modern art movement. This raises questions about which artists that have been viewed important enough to be included in the collection and how the museum’s priorities have changed over time. A large part of my study will also be devoted to examining how Moderna museet perceive its own role as creator and mediator of canonized art history.
